After 13 weeks, my credo project is finally finished, and so too is the semester (almost). Both have been an interesting journey of self-discovery and analysis of the design process/industry.
This project has made me consider myself as a designer, my future in the industry, and myself as a person and designer in symbiosis. These notions should be useful in the years to come, both in design and out of it. In many ways, this project has been a process of clarification.
This post feels like a goodbye, almost, and it is bittersweet! Whilst I am definitely looking forward to the completion of this course, at the same time, there are also some things I will surely miss… some I probably don’t realise just yet.
The pictures below show the finished outcome. I’m happy with it, and feel that it is representative of myself.
Since week 6, I’ve been plugging away at the Credo project, getting little bits and pieces done as I go. I’m happy to announce that it’s almost done. All it needs is a little trimming, folding and glueing and it’s ready to go. I’m really pleased with it, I see it as a reflection of myself. I think that although it is hard as a designer to do work that revolves around one’s self, it can be a really worthwhile thing to do, as it makes you focus on the way you design.
Here is my full process journal for the credo project. Thank you to Sarah for hosting the PDF.

I’ll post part 2 of my process journal soon, but I just thought I’d rationalise what I’m doing with the project first.
Book: A detailed account (visual and written essay) of my design process and thinking. Cogs theme, abstract photography, quotes and written passages.
DVD: A succinct and moving summary of my design process and thinking, with a more light-hearted tone. Continues the cogs and abstract photography themes, continues with quotes, but only has limited amounts of copy.
CD: Evidence of my design process and thinking in PDF folio format.
Outer box: Plain outside with circular die cut showing the title of the book through it. Inside shows a cogs pattern.
Inner box (CD/DVD casing): Holds book facing outwards, CDs facing each other. Perhaps with cogs pattern.

Tony recommended I have a look at Marshall McLuhan & Quentin Fiore’s ‘The Medium is the massage’. I haven’t read it, but in terms of design, it’s worth a look. In some ways it is much like the Credo documents that many of us will produce – small in scale, and discussing his beliefs (credo) and acts as a manifesto of those ideas.
It’s a very, very simple design, but it is giving me a few ideas on how to improve my Credo project.
I have finally scanned all my sketches, bits and bobs. Compiling it has actually been a clarifying process. It has made me look at the raw ideas I had in the beginning, see their validity and make me want to work them back in. There are good ideas that I remained oblivious to, as I discarded them as simply part of the process.
Rather than making you scroll down this blog endlessly, I thought I would just attach a PDF process journal.
